2002 End of Season Summary The 2002 cross country season ended with an overall record of 8-1 for the girls team and 2-7 for the boys team. The girls team tied for first in Section IV, WCCA Runner-up, and 12th in the WPIAL. The boys team finished 6th at the WCCA championships, and 25th in the WPIAL. Senior Co-Captain and MVP, Emily Lion had an outstanding season. She medaled at the Gateway and Slippery Rock Invitationals, and finished 10th in the WCCA Championships. Emily won dual meets against Oakland Catholic, Woodland Hills, and Pine Richland. Senior Co-Captain Tasha Wheatley also had a successful season. She medaled at the Gateway Invitational and finished 8th at the WCCA Championships. She won dual meets against Highlands, Plum, and Fox Chapel. Tasha Wheatley is fifth overall and the third fastest Kiski senior on the Kiski Area Course Record List with a personal best time of 20:11. Boy MVP, Erik Suchevich won a dual meet against Woodland Hills and placed third on the Kiski Area Sophomore Record List with a personal best time of 17:37. A new Freshman Record was set by Megan Conroy in a time of 20:46, breaking the old record by 44 seconds. Freshman Maddalenna McDonnell also bettered the previous record time. Freshmen Scott Learn and Tony broke into the record lists. The 2002 cross country teams worked very hard this year. Five seniors will be leaving the team next year. There were five freshmen, with four earning a varsity letter. With hard work and more experience, these athletes and the rest of the team will strive to become a better team.
